From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
